An Important Concept about Electromagnetic Induction
|
|
|
- Sequence of Occurence:
- Production of induced EMF (wire cuts magnetic field).
- Production of induced current if circuit is closed (Ohm's law).
- The induced current, together with the magnetic field, will produce a magnetic force (Fleming's left hand rule).
This magnetic force must opposite the original movement of the wire
(Lenz's law).
- Lenz's law is in fact a restatement of the
conservation of energy. If this magnetic force assisted the original movement,
then once started the wire would move and even accelerate forever, in
other words, the system would self-generate energy.
